Absolute path name resolves to mapped drive

Symptoms

UNC path resolves to drive letter even when browsing to the server name and required folder.

Cause

If you have a network drive mapped on the authoring machine Visio will resolve the address to be the preferred addressing method which may be a drive letter.

In this example we want to hyperlink to a file called sample.doc it is in the following location:

My Network

Manila

Process Library

Documents

On the authoring machine we have an X:\ drive mapped to 'Documents'. Insert the hyperlink and browse to Local File using My Network Places. Once you accept the file the path changes to X:\sample.doc

Solution

Choose one of the following:

1. Overtype the address to replace X:\ with \\Manila\Process Library\documents
2. Use Process Navigator to Replace Hyperlink and follow the step above
3. Use Export to Excel for any existing maps and make the changes in the hyperlinks sheet
